Pre-Swage:

For swaging terminals onto cable ends, the first step is to cut the cable to your desired length. Doing this ensures your terminal will be placed in the right position. Next, you need to insert the cable into the terminal. It is important to note that if you are using a shank type terminal, you should insert roughly 1” and then bend and straighten. Afterwards, push the cable end entirely into the terminal. By bending, it puts a kink in the cable end to provide friction that will hold the terminal in place until you are finished with the swaging operation.

During Swage:

It is crucial that when performing a swaging operation, you follow the instructions provided. This will ensure that your swage is successful and holds up to industry standards. After completing the swage, check your terminal to make sure it is free splits and die marks and not out of round. Also pay attention to cable slippages in terminal and for nicked, cut, or broken wire strands. These issues would require you to swage a new cable end.
