The Many Applications of Knitted Wire Mesh

Aug 23, 2013 08:44 AM

knitted wire meshKnitted wire mesh is metal wire knitted into a mesh structure in very much the same way as stockings or sweaters. Knitting produces a mesh of interlocking loops. These loops can move relative to each other in the same plane without distorting the mesh, giving knitted wire mesh a two-way stretch.

From a functional point of view, it is this flexibility that gives knitted mesh its unique advantages for industrial uses.

Exhaust Dampeners

Rolled and packed tightly, knitted wire mesh can be used for dampening in internal combustion and pneumatic engine exhaust systems. Chemical and temperature resistant alloys provide design options for extreme environments.

Seals and Gaskets

Flex-Joints

Expansion and contraction in heating, cooling. and ventilation systems requires seals that can remain in place over larger gaps than can be handled by traditional methods. The flexibility of knitted wire mesh also allows for custom designs to meet the needs of irregular ducting designs.

Chemical Separation

EMI/RFI Shielding

The tubular structure of knitted wire mesh meets the needs of the electronic industry, providing shielding for electro-magnetic signals. Material, flexibility, and size versatility provides engineers options for electronic system design.
